Super Robot Wars/64/Story
Mankind faced a massive population crisis and began immigrating to space almost two centuries ago. They constructed massive orbiting space colonies around the Earth, and these man-made worlds became humanity's new home. Soon, eighty percent of all humans were living in space.
The Earth government's top officials, despite the problems of the era, remained behind on Earth, and believed the people in space would be content being governed from the ground. The differing conditions on Earth and in the colonies created opposing viewpoints, and in response to increasing tension, the Earth Federation began oppressing the colonists.
After Colony 191, January...
The cluster of colonies furthest from the Earth, Side 3, declared war on the Earth Federation in a bid to secure their independence. After only six months of fighting, more than half of the total human population had died. Never before in history had such a terrible conflict taken place.
The Earth Federation had such greater resources than Zeon that their victory was certain, and Zeon's rulers - the dictatorial Zabi family - fell from power. The war was over. However, these dark days were only a prelude to greater troubles yet to come.
After Colony 191, September...
Although they didn't yet know it, humanity faced an even greater threat. Aliens from the Muge Zorbados Empire arrived and invaded the Earth Sphere. The people were exhausted from the Zeon War and could do nothing to resist, and the corrupt Earth Federation - drunk on their recent victory - had failed to rebuild society.
In the face of the Muge Zorbados Empire's overwhelming power, the Earth Federation Space Force was utterly ineffective. The Empire bombarded Earth from orbit, resulting in 70% of all cities being consumed by fire. The Earth Federation quickly surrendered without terms.
By December A.C.191, all of the Earth Sphere was under the control of an invading alien empire.
This fighting, later called the One Year War, was followed by fierce repression by the Empire and a bloody purge of all who resisted. Their rule was enforced by fear. The Empire’s iron-fisted rule prompted the emergence of monsters on the Earth, and people feared that the final days had come.
Three years into the Empire's reign, resistance movements are again beginning to show signs of activity in various parts of the Earth. A.C.195...The future of Earth is still mired in darkness and uncertainty.
