Makai Senki Disgaea/Item World

In Makai Senki Disgaea, the Item World is the name for the randomly generated dungeons that exist inside every item and piece of equipment. Entering the Item World allows a player to increase the level of his item, and the stats of the item. Inside the item world you will find characters known as Innocents, who can provide a stat bonus to the item in which they live. Although it is possible to complete a game of Disgaea without using the Item World extensively, it is the most powerful part of the game for an advanced player. Equipment which has been properly leveled up can be extremely powerful, and the Item World is also the only place where a player may obtain some of the most valuable equipment.

Using the Item World

You can only enter the Item World from the Overlord's castle. To enter the Item World, simply speak to your Item World Gatekeeper. In the main hall of the Overlord's Castle, there are two alcoves. The one nearest the Dark Assembly is the Netherworld Hospital, whereas the one nearest the Dimensional Gatekeeper is the Item World Gateway. Once you have spoken to her for the first time, the first option on the menu will allow you to enter the Item World. She will ask you to choose which item you wish to enter, and once you select an item, you will be taken to the Item World within that item.

In order to level up your items, you must make your way through the Item World. Each floor has a Base Panel, and Dimensional Portal. The Base Panel is where your party will start from, just like on any other map. The Dimensional Portal will allow you to go to the next floor. You may also progress to the next floor by defeating all the enemies, in which case you will receive money, and items from the Bonus Gauge.

You can only leave the Item World either by progressing through ten floors, or by using a Mr. Gency's Exit item. If you leave an Item World, and then enter it again at a later time, you will continue from the next floor you have yet to clear.

Item Rank and Item Rarity

If you take a look at one of the equipment lists on the Akurasu Wiki, you will note that items have a rank. In the case of humanoid weapon types, there are forty different ranks. For each other item and equipment types, the number of ranks is different, but the rules remain the same. The base stats of a rank 2 item will be better than the base stats of a rank 1 item, and so on. This is important when considering the item world, because the rank of an item dictates how tough the enemies you will face within that item are.

When shopping at the Rosenqueen store, the product rank dictates what the maximum rank of item available for sale will be. You can raise your product rank by passing a bill in the Dark Assembly. You can only raise the Product rank to match your current Customer Rank though. Raise your customer rank by buying items. The maximum Product Rank (and Customer Rank) is 12, which will make rank 38 weapons available to buy. You will need to find items which are more powerful than the shop has to offer from elsewhere, typically in the item world.

As well as the rank, which determines the name and base stats of an item, there is also rarity to consider. Every item in the game has a rarity from 0-255 which determines whether the item is common, rare, or legendary. If you take a look at the stats of any of your items, you will find the rarity displayed right underneath the item's name. A rarity of 0-7 will mean that the item is legendary, in which case it will have a gold crown next to the rarity stat. A rarity of 8 - 31 will mean that the item is rare, and there will be a silver crown next to the rarity stat. If the item has a rarity of 32 or more, then it is a common item.

There are two main reasons why this is important. First of all, a rare item gains a 25% bonus to base stats, while a legendary receives a 50% bonus. Second of all, it affects the number of floors the Item World of that item will have. A common item only has 30 floors in the item world, while a rare item has 60 floors and a legendary item has 100 floors. The more floors in the item world, the greater the potential power of an item. If you're planning to level up one of your items, it might be worth hunting down a legendary version of it first.

You cannot buy rare or legendary items from the shop, but you can find them in the bonus gauge, or you might find that enemy characters are using them. Almost any item in the game has a random rarity when it is created. The prize items from the Netherworld Hospital will never be legendary, but they may be rare. That would appear to be a special case.

Item Leveling

As you progress through the floors of the item world, your item will gain levels, and the stats will increase. It usually does not make a difference if you clear a floor or simply skip it by entering the dimensional portal. The only exception is the special floors, which occur every tenth floor in the item world. Each of these floors will have a special "item boss" who should be defeated. Killing all of the item bosses will cause a greater increase in stats for your item.

Item Bosses:

  • Floor 10: Item General
  • Floor 20: Item General
  • Floor 30: Item King
  • Floor 40: Item General
  • Floor 50: Item General
  • Floor 60: Item King
  • Floor 70: Item General
  • Floor 80: Item General
  • Floor 90: Item King
  • Floor 100: Item God

You will find the Item God of a high-ranked item to be one of the more challenging bosses in the game. Items of rank 40 have an Item God 2 instead of an Item God. The Item God 2 is that much more powerful than an Item God, and should be considered almost a comparable challenge to Baal, the final secret boss of the game.

Mr. Gency's Exit

The only way to leave the Item world other than clearing one of the special floors is to use a Mr. Gency's Exit. You will obtain your first Mr. Gency's Exit in Chapter 3 from the Dimensional Gatekeeper, free of charge. You must earn the rest by clearing the special floors in your items. When you reach a special floor, the first item in the bonus gauge is always a Mr. Gency's Exit, and that is usually the only way you can obtain them. A wise player will build a stockpile of Mr. Gency's Exit, since they are essential to advanced play.
