Gensou Shoujo Wars Complete Box/Bugs
Common Bugs
Difficulty Change softlock
In the library menu during the intermissions, the player is able to change the difficulty of the game. The difficulty menu is unrestricted on the left side, and the player is able to scroll the value of the difficulty out of the displayed values. If the player saves the setting in this state, the game will softlock.
Duplicate Main Character
If the player reaches a Game Over, they will gain a copy of the route's main character (Reimu or Marisa) on their roster when they continue on to the intermission. These copies are deploy-able and has the same skills and upgrades as the player's main character. Multiple copies of a main character can be gained over multiple Game Overs, and can be gained even if the main character is not playable on that stage. These copies disappears at the next stage.
Insufficient Ammo/MP Costs When Attacking
If an unit uses an attack, but is rendered unable to use said attacks during combat, these attacks will still execute. For example, if Sanae uses Summon Takeminakata (costs 80MP) with 80MP left, and the enemy activates counter, which causes Sanae to consume 15 MP to activate Spiritual Barrier, leaving her with 65 MP, insufficient to use Summon Takeminakata. In this case, she will use Summon Takeminakata anyway, and only pay the remaining 65 MP for the cost.
Sakuya or Yumeko can cause a similar effect using Time Paradox/Second Attack personal skill with insufficient ammo/MP. For example, if Sakuya uses Magic Star Sword with 1 ammo remaining, while using Magic Star Sword for her Time Paradox attack, the second Magic Star Sword will be used despite having 0 ammo.
Insufficient Ammo/MP Costs When Counterattacking
If an unit has insufficient Ammo/MP for one of their attacks in a counterattack, that attack cannot be used even if Devote or Resupply was cast.
MAP Weapon item drops
If the player uses a MAP Weapon to shoot down an enemy unit with droppable parts, they will not obtain that part. This includes point rewards in the part slot.
Bullet Branch of Hourai
When equipping Bullet Branch of Hourai (+1 Support Attack/Support Defense) onto a combined unit (the prismrivers or the three fairies of light), the effects of Bullet Branch of Hourai will only apply if the unit is combined at the start of turn. After separating, the extra support attack and support defense will persist on the main pilot (Lunasa or Sunny). Similarly, if it's equipped onto the main pilot of an unit that can combine (any of the prismriver sisters or the three fairies), the effects of Bullet Branch of Hourai will only apply if the unit is separated at the start of turn. If the part was equipped on the main pilot, the effect will persist after combining.
Ammoed Combination Attacks
When using combination attacks that consumes ammo, the ammo is only consumed from the attacking unit, and is not consumed on any other involved characters.
Character Specific Bugs
Rumia's Attack Rating
Rumia loses 100 attack to all of her weapons starting Stage 16.
Koishi's Personality Type
Koishi's Personality Type, "???", does not function. As such, she's unable to gain Power innately from any combat related actions. Skills, spirits and parts that increase Power still functions.
Malice Cannon
Malice Cannon, when used by Alice, does not consume any MP from Marisa. Both Marisa and Alice are also able to support attack for each other using Malice Cannon.
Rear pair effects
A number of unit's abilities do not function properly when they are in the rear pair:
- Rumia's Night Darkness does not change her own terrain to Night.
- Keine's teacher does not increase the front pair unit's EXP gain, only her own.
Rei'sen's All Out Barrage
Rei'sen's All Out Barrage effect, on a support attack, deals extra damage as according to the effect, but does not consume the effect or consume all of her ammo. Instead, her ammo usage is normal (1 per attack), and she will retain the extra damage, until the effect is consumed by either a normal attack or an assist attack.
Lily White and Letty's friendship bonus
Lily White and Letty are unaffected by any friendship bonuses. Obtaining Lily Black on Stage 61 allows Lily White to be affected by friendship bonuses again.
Dream Spirit Command
If the Dream user is the last remaining allied pair on the map, they are unable to use Dream to access their partner's character's spirit commands.
Stage Specific Bugs
Stage 8 & 63 Terrain Bug
The Gate terrain in Stage 8 and specific pieces of the Cliff terrain on Stage 63 can be moved onto by units on the ground, but units on the ground cannot move while on them. Enemy grounded units will be stuck indefinitely, while player units must Fly to move themselves from them.
Stage 34 Yukari's spellcards
Yukari's second last spellcard, where she cannot be damaged by non-adjacent units, actually affects all enemy units within the danmaku field: all enemy units cannot be damaged unless attacked by an adjacent unit.
Yukari's final spellcard on Stage 34, where she gains one turn per player character in the danmaku field, actually affects all enemy units within the danmaku field. Any enemy unit present in the danmaku field will gain one turn for each player character in the danmaku field.
Stage 48, 49, and 73A Yorihime MAP Weapon
On these stages, Yorihime will not use her MAP Weapon despite having access to them. This includes Stage 48, where it's her final spellcard, and her nightmare version on Stage 73A.
Stage 48, 73A Yorihime Accuracy Limit Break
On these stages, Yorihime has the Accuracy Limit Break effect (accuracy can go above 100%, deals extra damage based on % above 100%). In combat with a character with an active special dodge ability (Sakuya, Reisen, Chen, etc.) her accuracy will be capped at (100-activation chance)% without Strike, and capped at 100% with Strike. Her damage also does not increase above normal amounts.
Stage 59 & 60 Intermission Softlock
On Stages 59 and 60, if the player checks the stats of the Prismrivers or the Three Fairies of Light from the equipment menu, the game will softlock.
Stacking Enemy Characters
For spell cards that summons enemies, enemies will be shifted out of the way if a player unit is placed on their spawn location. If sufficient number of player units are gathered, multiple enemy characters can be spawned onto the same tile. Their actions will still function as normal, but the player is unable to target any stacked enemy units except for the top one.
This can occur on the following stages:
- Satori, Stage 53 Marisa Route
- Tenshi, Stage 57
- Shinki, Stage 68
and likely more.
Stage 73A Yukari Softlock
On Stage 73A, nightmare Yukari will use her Gap Ability to approach the player's units and attack them. If all of the player's units are within the Air terrain on top of the map, Nightmare Yukari, a grounded unit, will be unable to Gap to the player and softlocks the game.
Stage 72B Barrier Key
On Stage 72B, defeating the top left Barrier Key counts as defeating two Barrier key boss for the stage's victory condition. You have to shoot it down last to acquire this skill point.
Stage 75B Makura
After Makura gets her story event power up, if the player makes a save, and then reloads the save, Makura will have negative HP when the game is loaded. Using any command (except Spirit Commands) on Makura in this state will cause her to be shot down and causing a game over. The player must fix this by casting a Friendship Spirit Command on Makura.
Reimu Route
Stage 40 Meiling
Meiling has significantly less stats on Hard/Lunatic difficulty, due to mistakenly using Normal difficulty's Meiling data for the higher difficulties.
Marisa Route
Reimu's Duplex Barrier
Reimu keeps her Duplex Barrier personal skill after she rejoins at Stage 41, even though it's supposed to be replaced by Duplex Barrier Enhance. The skill is redundant and does not function when used (since the duplex barrier effects do not stack).
Koishi's Unconsciousness
On some versions of the game, Koishi will keep her Unconsciousness personal skill from Stage 25 (Allied units within 2 squares cannot be targeted by attacks, including counterattacks) when she joins. Said personal skill is not supposed to be playable.
Stage 38 Softlock
Using the deployment screen during the intermission softlocks the game.
Lunatic Mode
Stage 34 Ran's MAP Weapon
Ran is revived by Yukari on her second last spellcard. However, after being revived, after she uses her MAP weapon once, her consequent MAP weapons deals 0 damage to player units.
Stage 55 Utsuko Softlock
In Stage 55, on Utsuko's 3rd spellcard (Applies "Fury" to self each turn, extra action each time her attack connects), she can softlock the game during her actions.
Exhaust Softlock
On any map where enemies have access to the Exhaust Spirit Command, if the player makes all of their allied units untargetable (for example, load all units into the ship, and use Sunny's Reflection personal skill adjacent to the ship) the game softlocks when the enemies with Exhaust takes their action.
Stage 69 Softlock
In some versions of the game, on stage 69, the game have a chance to softlock when the player starts the stage.
Enemy Full Upgrade Bonuses
When enemies reach 100% upgrade level, they will gain Full Upgrade Bonuses (typically +3000 HP). However, they do not have this bonus if their upgrade level goes above 100%, thus resulting in some enemies having HP that's significantly lower than other enemies on the same stage, and/or having HP lower than their Hard difficulty counterparts.
New Game Plus
Reimu and Marisa forms
If the old costumes for Reimu and Marisa are unlocked, and Reimu and Marisa are not among the units carried back using dream mode, on entering Route B at Stage 71, both units will be changed into their old form and lose access to their new form.
Nue's Spirit Costs
On a New Game Plus, the cost of Nue's Spirit Commands "Faith" and "Confuse" are reversed (70 SP and 40 SP, respectively).
Display Bugs
Damage Multiplier Display
Damage Multiplier does not display correctly in the combat forecast screen, but does not affect the actual damage.
Underflow
Damage multiplier display underflows and will display an comically large multiplier, if the damage dealt by the attacking unit is 0, and the defending unit has Potential.
Full Power Mode
Damage multiplier from the rear pair unit is always shown incorrectly when queuing Full Power Mode for the first time on that turn. It corrects if it is cancelled and queued again.
Support Defense
The threat display for Support Defense does not take into account many additional multipliers. For example, Yorihime's Accuracy Limit Break effect.
Combination Attack Rating
When upgrading the weapons of units with combination attacks, the attack rating increase will not reflect on the other units involved with the combination attacks. This is purely a display issue and damage is calculated correctly. The display issue can be fixed by upgrading the weapons of the other units involved, or equipping and unequipping them with an part that increases attack rating.
Active Skill Display
On an multi pilot unit, if the main pilot has any active skills, the sub pilot's skills in the same slot will also be colored as active skills.
