Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Red Shoulder Documents - Roots of Ambition is a prequel to the Armored Trooper VOTOMS TV series and is also the direct prequel to Armored Trooper VOTOMS: Pailsen Files. This OVA in particular focuses on Chirico's background during his service as part of the infamous Red Shoulder battalion and gives plenty of speculation of his identity and past.
Story
On a remote Gilgamesh base, a transport full of fresh soldiers lands. Among them is Chirico Cuvie. With no time to waste, the soldiers are immediately put into training, but little do they know they will be a part the cannibalistic training regiment of the Red Shoulders, a force that would later be feared for their ruthlessness and savagery in battle.
