Prologue

New Western Calendar Year 187, December.

Several months have passed since the climax of the conflict that would come to be known as the Balmar War. The unfathomable danger facing mankind was averted by the valorous efforts of the SDF forces and the Lond Bel, but at a very high price.

The shockwave produced by the ultra-gravitational collapse from the end of the final operation of the war would reach the Earth in half a year's time... It was predicted that the resulting devastation would wipe out the better half of the space colonies and wreak extensive damage on the Earth's surface as well.

However, this information was distorted by the Balmar war, and suppressed by the Titans, who dismantled the SDF and the Lond Bel. Most people have never been told the truth..." - MNeidergard

Super Robot Wars Alpha Gaiden focuses itself on an epilogue of sorts to the original Alpha. It happens after the Balmar War and it counts with many of its established points - Amuro already starts with the Nu Gundam, Max has already convinced Miria to leave the Meltrandi... Due to mysterious events near the Macross, the main cast is transported to another world, a post-apocalyptical world full with wars and destruction. There, series' characters such as Xabungle's crew, Gundam X's or Turn A Gundam's live their lives without knowing what happened in the past a long time ago.

Unlike the rest of the Alpha series, you cannot choose an Original Protagonist as the Alpha archetypes does not go to the future.

Prequel

In the manga, Super Robot Taisen Tribute- The Day the World Burned Out the struggles of mankind after the ultra-graviational shockwave are chronicled. It shows that the destruction caused by the shockwave as well as the fighting from series enemies left unchecked has caused the Earth to become uninhabitable. In response to this Lynn Minmay and Relena Peacecraft rally as many remaining allies as possible to evacuate as many civilians off the Earth as possible. The manga takes place during the final civilian evacuation at the Great Wall of China where Relena, Lady Une and Dorothy Catalonia lead the remaining Zeon, Earth Federation and SDF pilots against the oncoming attacks from the Ankoku Daishogun and the Dinosaur Empire. There are 30,000 refugees at their camp, and 50,000 more at a nearby camp; Relena realizes that they can't take everyone to space with the resources they have. The battle is quickly ended when a nuclear strike from the GP02 piloted by Yazan Gable of the Titans destroys the nearby camp of 50,000, seriously wounding Lady Une and Dorothy.

Both the Titans and the Mycenean/Dinosaur Empire armies attack; the former to steal the heroes' shuttles and the latter simply to destroy all of the humans. The remaining evacuation forces, including Christina Mckensie in the Gundam Alex and Bernie Wiseman in his Zaku II Kai, are being quickly overwhelmed. When all seems lost for the refugees the Mazinger Army led by Dr. Kenzo Kabuto, RyuKoOh piloted by Aya Kobayashi and Rai Branstein and Jerid Messa and Mouer Pharoah rebelling against the Titans show up to help the refugees. Dr. Kabuto reveals that they were late because they were sealing Mazinkaiser and Shin Getter for their pilots to use in the future because of the Neo Granzon exploding. Relena realizes that the Preventers are still alive in the distant future and humanity has to survive to help them then. As the battle begins to turn against them, Yazan decides to use the GP02's nuclear bazooka again and destroy all of the Titans' enemies at once.

The nuclear missile is launched, but then stopped by the emergence of the Aurgelmir piloted by Magus Gebo aka Sophia Nate. The Aurgelmir uses its Machine Cells to disintegrate the nuke as well as the Myceneans and Dinosaur Empire. This causes their headquarters, Machineland, to go underground and the Ankoku Daishogun vows revenge on humanity no matter how long it takes. The Aurgelmir, along with the Bergelmirs piloted by the Machine Children and the Thrugilmir piloted by Sanger Zonvolt begin attacking the humans wholesale. Bask Om's Garuda is hit and he decides to take the refugees with him. The remaining pilots force the ship toward the oncoming Aurgelmir and Jerid and Mouar die in the process. Getting hit by the Garuda merely slows the Aurgelmir down as its Machin Cells begin regenerating the damage. Knowing none of their weapons can stop the enemy, Relena makes a plea to it to not destroy the the refugees gathered there. Her speech works as Sophia's personality is able to momentarily overtake Magus and the Machine Cell robots return to the Earth Cradle to enter cryogenic sleep. The surviving pilots board the shuttles with the refugees, though RyuKoOh remains on Earth. The refugees follow Minmay's broadcasts to the Moon, marking the beginning of the Moonrace.
