Super Dimension Fortress Macross: Do You Remember Love is the theatrical adaption of the Super Dimension Fortress Macross TV series. The theatrical version omits and alternately retells the events of the original TV series while also providing a true ending since the original show was cut off without any sort of ending. The Macross franchise uses this adaption as canon for the flow of events that occur in the Macross universe with certain parts of the TV series also being accepted as well. Like the original TV series, the movie focuses on the advanced ship Macross as it sails and preserves the fate of humanity from the hostile alien race known as the Zentradi.

Super Dimensional Fortress Macross: DYRL in Super Robot Wars

The inclusion of the Macross franchise in Super Robot Wars adds a new class of real robot and variable robot hybrids. While real robot units in previous Super Robot Wars did have the ability to change into alternate forms, doing so was not optimal unless the unit was trying to bypass terrain restrictions. Variable real robots such as the Zeta and ZZ Gundam are only able to use a few attacks while in their flying forms, but the VF Valkyries from Macross, inspired from modern jet fighters, retain almost all their attacks while some attacks are specific to certain forms. This allows them to maintain the flexibility of variable robots while still maintaining versatile, all-range weaponry of real robots.

The Macross itself itself lives up to its name as a super fortress, which is a stark contrast to its Valkyrie units. Valkyries are extremely mobile and agile, but in return they have low HP and armor, making them very fragile. Despite its small size, it is capable of dealing absurd amounts of damage, especially once nuclear warheads are approved for use.

Like Mobile Suit Gundam, units and story elements from both the movie and original TV series have been used and passed off as Macross: Do You Remember Love in the cast list.
