Macross Plus is an OVA series that is also the true sequel to the Super Dimensional Fortress Macross in place of the controversial Macross II: Lovers Again movie. The OVA would be redone and compiled into a movie known as Macross Plus: Movie Edition. The animation used in Macross Plus uses hand-drawn animation mixed with computer-generated animation with plenty of research on fighter jets to create realistic and thrilling sequences that would inspire future animation productions to invest into computer graphics.

Story
30 years have passed since mankind ended the war with the alien Zentradi race and established a new era of peace, prosperity, and possibilities. Isamu Alva Dyson, a young ace pilot, is fighting other rouge Zentradi fleets that have yet to accept peace with the new U.N. However, Isamu's fight is cut short as his reckless piloting endangers his allies and his attitude gives his superiors headaches. Because of his good service as a pilot, he is given an alternative punishment. No longer will he be in a battlefield of space, but he will be transferred to his home planet of Eden to fight a new battle: the contest to determine the next U.N. Spacy standard fighter.
