The Brave's Mission
(Shunpei's house: Baan as a light orb, Shunpei, his grandpa, Gengorou, and Akag-- I mean Manami. Seriously, she looks like she's from Akagi or Kaiji in BS1)
Manami: So an evil being is trying to bring mayhem to the universe.
Baan: Grandark rules over chaos and destruction. His power is so immense... that we, the Holy Braves, can't seal him on our own.
Shunpei: No way...! You're incredibly strong, aren't you, Baan? Even so, you can't beat Grandark!? Is Grandark that strong!?
Baan: Indeed. My power isn't enough to seal Grandark. I need you, Shunpei.
Shunpei: Why me!?
Baan: In order to seal Grandark, we need a holy heart.
Gengorou: A holy... heart?
Baan: You intelligent lifeforms call this "emotions"... This is an energy we discarnate entities lack. And, when a holy heart possesses courage, I will turn into a true Brave.
Manami: Courage?
Baan: I am the Holy Brave who rules over courage. Courage is the source of my power.
Gengorou: Then... You felt courage inside Shunpei and showed up at the Kaihin Dome... Am I right?
Baan: ...Yes. As I was drifting through space, the light that reached me... was the great and beautiful brilliance of courage. When I descended, looking for that light, what I saw before me was you, Shunpei. I didn't think that the source of courage could be a small child, so I was surprised.
Shunpei: (shakes head) I couldn't be the source of courage, it must be a mistake...
Gengorou: What's wrong? Don't you have any self-confidence, Shunpei?
Shunpei: (nods) ......Uh-huh...
Manami: ... So? How do you and Shunpei intend to take on Grandark on your own?
Baan: ... No. In order to stop Grandark's invasion, my mistress, Astal, sounded the bell of alarm. Thanks to it, the Braves from all over the universe have started making their move.
Manami: ............ (starts leaving) I'll leave for a bit. (leaves)
Shunpei: (nods) I'll go out as well.
Baan: Shunpei, if you want to go outside, I must... (Shunpei shakes his head) ... I see.
Shunpei: I'm just going out for a walk... I'll be back in a minute.
Baan: Then, Shunpei... please take this.
Shunpei: ......? (a blue glow: we see the Baan Brace being presented) This is...?
Baan: The Baan Brace. Think of it as a communication device.
Shunpei: I'll be off, then.
Gengorou: Be careful. (Shunpei nods and leaves) Baan-san.
Baan: Yes?
Gengorou: I'm no good with the difficult parts, but...
Baan: ......
Gengorou: I don't think you were wrong in thinking highly of Shunpei... After all, he's my grandson.
Baan: ...!?
Gengorou: The meaning of his name... was "becomes the warrior who grasps the instant".
[Translator's note: Shunpei's name is formed from the kanji for instant - shun - and the one for soldier - hei/pei]
Baan: Who grasps the instant...?
Gengorou: As in, he knows "one" and understands "ten".
[Translator's note: In other words, it means that he understands the whole situation after hearing only a part of the explanation. Since my internet was crap when I translated this, I'll suppose that this is connected to learning to write kanji. The kanji for ichi (one), being a horizontal line, is the most basic character and stroke. The kanji for juu (ten) is formed from a horizontal line and a vertical one, being based on the "ichi" one. As such, the expression might refer to people who are taught the basics and use intuition to uncover the rest. I'm not very sure how Gengorou's two expressions are connected]
Baan: ......
Gengorou: ... He's a smart kid, so he already understands. Just give him more time. ... Alright?
Baan: ...... Yes.
(on the street, Shunpei is walking)
Shunpei: (looks down) ...... Huh. Me, the source of courage... I can't believe this... (walks a bit more before Yuuta from Brave Police J-Decker runs and bumps into him...)
Yuuta: ...Ah!
Shunpei: Eh...!? (...and both fall on the ground from the impact) Owowowowow...
Yuuta: (gets up and runs to Shunpei) I-I'm sorry. You alright...?
Shunpei: ... U-Uh-huh. (gets up)
Yuuta: I'm in a bit of a hurry. I'm sorry. (both nod)
Shunpei: No, don't worry. It was my fault for spacing out. [?] Huh...? You... You're crying...? Did you hurt yourself?
Yuuta: (shakes head) Eh!? Ah, uh-uh! This is something else. Just...... I'm really sorry! Bye...!(runs off; Nanako enters)
Nanako: [!] Ah, there you were! Shunpei! (goes to Shunpei)
Shunpei: Nanako? What happened?
Nanako: Aaah! Shunpei, you forgot about our promise!
Shunpei: [?] Promise...?
Nanako: Have you really forgotten? You promised you'd take me to the Brave Police's parade!
Shunpei: [!] Eh!? Was it today...!?
Nanako: [sweatdrop] Oh, man. Shunpei, you were looking forward to it so much...
Shunpei: U... Uh-huh, that's right.
Nanako: (goes ahead of Shunpei) Oh, well. Let's go, quickly!
Shunpei: Ah, wait! Nanako!! (both run off)
(Eyecatch: Baan Gaan x2. Actually, I think this one didn't have different eyecatches for each series, like Brave Saga 2)
(On a main street: a crowd - Shunpei and Nanako join it)
Nanako: There's a lot of a people here...
Shunpei: Yeah.
(A police car and police truck start driving by)
Nanako: (looks up) What's that!?
Shunpei: [!] ... A robot!?
(A robot appears from the sky: it's Doctor Gauss, the very first villain from J-Decker)
Doctor Gauss: I, Doctor Gauss, will get the Brave Police! (fires something that causes a white flash)
(The car and truck are surrounded by explosions)
(Back to where Shunpei and Nanako were: only the truck is there. Everyone but Shunpei, Nanako and Yuuta run away; Doctor Gauss's mecha appears before the truck)
Doctor Gauss: Fuhahahaha... Japan's police is no match for me. (prepares to fire)
Shunpei: Ah, the container car is...!!
Yuuta: (runs between Gauss's mecha and the truck) Wait!!
Doctor Gauss: (stops his shot) Hm? Who's that!?
Yuuta: I won't let you get Deckerd! (turns to the truck) Deckerd! It's me, Yuuta. You can hear my voice, can't you?
Shunpei: T-That's...!
Yuuta: Wake up, Deckerd. Wake up and fight!
Doctor Gauss: You noisy brat. (prepares to fire again)
Yuuta: (stretches his arms out, to protect the truck) Deckerd!!
Deckerd's voice: Yuuta! (a white flash; he appears in front of Yuuta)
Yuuta: Deckerd!
Deckerd: (aims his gun at Doctor Gauss) Hold up! This is Deckerd of the Brave Police!!
Yuuta: (walks next to Deckerd) Deckerd...
Deckerd: (un-aims his gun) Yuuta... (re-aims it)
Doctor Gauss: I understand now! Brave Police, that's some robot you've got there. However, it now belongs to me, Doctor Gauss!
Yuuta: [!]
(on the map, Doctor Gauss's mecha, called Death Magne, appears)
Doctor Gauss: Curses! I'll show you how scary the Death Magne is!
(back to Yuuta and the others)
Deckerd: Yuuta, it's dangerous here.
Yuuta: If I'm with Deckerd, I'm not afraid.
Deckerd: Yuuta, aren't you afraid?
Yuuta: (shakes head) No problem! Anyway, Deckerd, take care of him, quickly!
Deckerd: (aims gun) Roger, Boss!
Yuuta: B-Boss!?
Deckerd: (un-aims gun) Mhm.
(back to map: Deckerd is in front of the Death Magne)
Doctor Gauss: Damned Brave Police! I'll show you my trump card!!
(3 grunt mecha appear)
Deckerd: Muh, you called for reinforcements!!
Doctor Gauss: Robot army of mine, rip that Brave Police member to shreds!!
(back to Yuuta and the others; Nanako moves forward)
Nanako: Shunpei, help that Brave Police member!
Shunpei: (moves next to her) ...Nanako?
Nanako: No matter how strong he is, there's no way he can beat that many robots on his own! Please! You can help him, can't you, Shunpei?
Yuuta: Deckerd! Try your best, Deckerd!! (blast SFX in the background)
Shunpei: He's younger than me, and yet he fights so heroically. But...
Nanako: Get a hold of yourself, Shunpei!! Only you can do this, Shunpei!
Shunpei: I can't. Baan isn't here... [!] I see...! (uses the Baan Brace to contact Baan) Baan, some robots are rampaging through the city.
Baan: I know. However, I can't come there.
Shunpei: What should I do!?
Baan: Yell "Brave Charge" towards the Baan Brace. This is a keyword that makes me strong.
Shunpei: B-But...
Nanako: Shunpei, what are you doing? Hurry!
Baan: Shunpei, courage isn't only for fights, but also for protecting others. You have that courage.
Shunpei: I understand, I'll try. <Courage is to protect others. I'm not afraid...> Brave Charge!!

Doctor Gauss: Say your prayers, Brave Police!
Deckerd: Kh... I can still fight!
Baan's voice: Wait!
(a blue car drives in front of Deckerd)
Doctor Gauss: W-What!?
Baan: Change! (transforms into his humanoid form) I, Baan, the Holy Brave, will not forgive those who threaten peace!
Doctor Gauss: Perfect. I, Doctor Gauss, will get my hands on you, too!
(You can deploy two units: you only have King Exkaiser and Fighbird (Armament Combination form))
Victory Condition:
Destroy the chief unit!
Deckerd's only weapon is his gun.
(once you defeat Doctor Gauss, a white flash)
Doctor Gauss: Curse you!!
Deckerd: Doctor Gauss! You're under arrest for being caught red-handed with robbery!
Doctor Gauss: Curses! Damn you, Brave Police!!
(Stage Clear)
(Grandark's throne room: Grandark and his three underlings, Guilty, Gust and Carla)
Grandark: So he failed...
Guilty: Yes...
Carla: It seems that making use of Earth's humans was a failure.
Gust: You were completely useless. Looks like I'll have to go out.
Guilty: .........
Grandark: ... Enough. Carla, Gust, both of you, leave.
Carla: Lord Grandark...?
Guilty: Lord Grandark told you two to leave.
Carla: [!] ...!! I know! (starts leaving) Let's go, Gust!
Gust: Alright, alright. (both leave)
Guilty: .........
(on the palace hallways, Gust and Carla)
Gust: ... Until now, Seltz has been the one to stay next to Lord Grandark. Just when I thought Seltz was gone, this guy showed up. What an eyesore he is!
Carla: When Lord Seltz left, Guilty showed up...?
Gust: (walks past Carla) I don't like him. Looks like I'll really have to move out.
Carla: Wait! Don't do anything selfish while Lord Seltz is away.
Gust: I don't care about people who aren't here.
Carla: What!?
Gust: I don't want this newbie to get more spotlight than me. That's why I'll use this chance to prove myself. (leaves)
Carla: What could have happened to Lord Seltz...?
(back to the Dome ruins: Satoru and Masaru - Manami joins them)
Satoru: Ah, Manami-san!
Masaru: You're finally here, ane-go! We've been waiting for you.
[Translator's note: ane-go is a respectful way to refer to your older sister or a woman in a superior position. If I'm not mistaken, this word is typical for yakuza. Can't think of a good equivalent, so I'll stick to ane-go. Also, Masaru speaks in Kansai-ben]
Manami: Both of you were fast.
Masaru: Yeah, I was first.
All: [?]
Hiromi's voice: Non, non, non! That is W-r-o-n-g! (comes out) The first one to come here was little old me! <3
Satoru: ... Hiromi-chan!
Hiromi: Since I thought I would be getting a call soon, I prepared. (There's a sound)
Manami: [!] .........!? (walks towards the entrance) .........
Hiromi: (walks closer to Manami) Onee-sama...?
[Translator's note: since she isn't Manami's and Shunpei's sister, I'm sticking to onee-sama, Gunbuster-style]
Manami: Nothing... Let's go.
(All enter; from the ceiling of that entrance appears Secret Detective, who jumps in front of the entrance)
Secret Detective: I am~ S-e-c-r-e-t, Secret Detective~!! Yeah! Criminal's features, number one! Criminals always return to scene of the crime! That's why I've been waiting here aaaaaaaall this time. And show up they did. In o-ther words, they're the bad guys who destroyed the Dome~!! Oops, can't be doing this now. I have to hurry up and follow them!! (enters as well)
(inside the Dome, where Shunpei's fight was going to take place, Secret Detective enters)
Secret Detective: ......!? (looks around) W-Why isn't there anybody here!? Where did those four go...!? (walks around) This confirms it! They were part of an evil secret society, after all! The fact that they vanished so sneakily is proof positive! That tall lady must be their big boss. I, the Secret Detective, will certainly catch their trace!! Wait for me, evildoers! Nahahahahaha...!
(Computer-y message from VARS)
As of today, the VARIABLE ROBOT SYSTEM's development room is pausing its activity. At the same time, codename VARS has been put into operation. The crew is to gather quickly.
[Note: VARS, at the beginning, is short for "VAriable Robot System"]
(Back to the save screen. It just occurred to me that VARS, the name of the hero organization, actually stands for Valiant Attack & Rescue Staff. Hence the change of name from the previous screen)
