Brave Saga 1/Story Translation/Stage 1

The Holy Braves gathered once more to seal Grandark, who had started his revival.

...However, being discarnate entities just like Grandark, the Holy Braves were unable to seal him on their own.

The Holy Braves lost their powers in front of Grandark's tremendous power.

...Then, the battle ended.

(Throne Room: Grandark, surrounded by five orbs of light with human figures in them - that's what Braves look like when not in mechas)

Grandark: It is futile... Your strength is not enough to seal me.

(three black-violet orbs surround Grandark)

Grandark: Astal, listen to my curse! I will bring ugly darkness onto the world! (one of the black-ish orbs turns into a dragon-like henchman) Hatred to life! (another orb turns into a demon girl with a halo) Despair to the future! (last orb turns into an armored knight) All you evil ones... answer to loud call! Let us bring chaos to this world once more! (the colored orbs are blown away) Behold, this great power!! Time is our ally!

(space, the blue orb)

Astal: Baan... You who rule over courage... In order to seal Grandark, we need a holy heart.

Baan: A holy... heart?

Astal: An energy that we discarnate entities do not possess. This is something that living beings call "feelings"... When a heart has courage, the holy strength, you shall become a true Brave.

Baan: ... Courage......

Astal: Hurry to where the one with courage is, Baan. We must stop Grandark's invasion as quickly as possible...!

(blue orb flies off; fade to Earth. There is a small light on the side, probably in Japan. Baan's orb arrives)

Baan: So that's it... (flies to the small light)

Baan, the Holy Brave, went to the shining blue planet... to Earth, looking for courage, the holy heart needed to seal Grandark... And this is where the curtain to the legend of the Braves who fought for the sake of the entire universe draws.

6th grade, class 1, Serizawa Shunpei

The city I live in is called Kaihin [Seaside] City.

My older sister said that "This city is going to grow bigger and bigger".

My older sister helped develop this city. She told me that this is an ideal town, built to coexist with nature.

However, I don't know much more than this.

My older sister's name is Serizawa Manami. She's a scientist.

She didn't only help develop the city, but also a researcher in nature conservation and space development.

She also created VARS, which is very popular now.

VARS is a game in which you control robots with your thoughts. It's very fun to fight other people's VARS.

Now, there is a national VARS contest. Of course, I'll be in it as well. It'll take place in the Kaihin Dome. My older sister built the Kaihin Dome as well.

It's kind of strange and funny that there's a VARS contest in the Kaihin Dome, both developped by my sister.

I didn't tell my sister, but I really admire her. I also love the city my sister built.

Brave Advent!

(VARS contest's final match hall. Many kids watching the two finalists and the official)

Hiromi (the official): Everyone, please pay attention to the stage! The national VARS contest has finally reached its final match! As such, let me introduce you to the two heroes who've stayed in this competition! A Block, Serizawa Shunpei-kun. (Shunpei comes forward, looks around and bows) B Block, Sakashita Hiro-kun. (Hiro comes forward and just bows; both go back to their places) As such, VARS final battle! Start!!

Shunpei: < I won't lose today! Hiro!!>

Hiro: <Shunpei... We may be friends, but I won't go easy on you!>

(outside, on the map, two of the Geisters from Brave Exkaiser and Shura from Brave Of The Sun Fighbird arrive)

Horn Geist: Hey. Are you sure there's a treasure in here?

Shura: Yes. Look at that dome over there. Right now, inside that dome, there's a national VARS contest.

Horn Geist: VARS...?

Armor Geist: ... I know this one! Adults and kids are in love with this... An awesome treasure!

Horn Geist: VARS is a treasure, huh...

Armor Geist: I, I want it...! This planet's treasures belong to us, the Geisters!!

Shura: Heh, I'll leave the treasure to you guys. Rampage as much as you like.

Horn Geist: Yeah! Let's take that dome as well!

Shura: ... Then, I'll be leaving this to you. (teleports away)

Armor Geist: Alright! Let's go!!

(A blue orb like Baan's flies between them and the dome)

Exkaiser: Fiendish Space Pirate Geisters! I will not forgive any wrong-doing on planet Earth!!

Horn Geist: That voice! Y-You are...!?

(orb turns into Exkaiser)

(FMV: Kyodai Gattai (Giant Combination) King Exkaiser)

Horn Geist: D-Damn you...! You followed us this far!!

King Exkaiser: I have told you before. Until the light of my life vanishes, I will not allow you to do any evil deeds!

Armor Geist: You cheeky little...! Get him!!

(6 grunt mecha show up; King Exkaiser moves towards one of them)

King Exkaiser: Kaiser Beam! (destroys one of the grunts)

Horn Geist: N-Now you've done it!

Armor Geist: Here, this is pay-back! Eat this!!

(King Exkaiser moves back in front of the dome)

King Exkaiser: Wait...! What are you doing!!?

(The Geisters start firing at the dome; two light orbs enter the dome; the dome explodes and the ceiling is broken)

King Exkaiser: Oh, no!!

Horn Geist: Oops, looks like we broke it.

Armor Geist: Can't be helped. Let's get the treasure, at least!

(Inside the dome: everything is in flames, everyone runs away, except for Shunpei, who is lying on the ground)

Shunpei: ...Uhn...... H-Huh...!? (looks around) W-What happened!? (moves around) Hi-Hiro...? (falls on his knees) ... What am I going to do......?

(Back to King Exkaiser; only one grunt is left...)

King Exkaiser: Kaiser Beam! (...Before it is destroyed)

Horn Geist: ... Ghmumumumuu.

(Geisters fall back; King Exkaiser goes back in front of the dome. The Fire Jet from Fighbird flies above)

Kenta: Oh no! The Kaihin Dome is...

Katori: We were late!

Kenta: I'll go rescue the people inside.

(Fire Jet lands)

Katori: Is it okay, Kenta?

Kenta: Leave it to me, Katori-nii-chan. I'm part of the Amano Rescue Team as well, right?

Katori: Alright! I'm leaving it to you, Kenta. (Fire Jet flies next to King Exkaiser)

Armor Geist: Wh-Who are you!?

(FMV: Busou Gattai (Armament Combination) Fighbird)

Fighbird (Armament Combination form): My name is Fighbird! I am part of the Space Security Force that's come here to smash the ambitions of evil!!

Horn Geist: The Space Police Squad!? Keh, Exkaiser's ally!!

Armor Geist: It doesn't matter! Let's get him too!!

King Exkaiser: Be careful, Fighbird! These two can combine!!

Fighbird (Armament Combination form): What...!?

(The Geisters combine)

Hormor: Combination! Hormor!! (a portmanteau of Horn and Armor) Eat this!

(fires at the Braves; explosions; fade to white)

Eyecatch: Baan Gaan x2 (1st eyecatch: an announcement of "Baan Gaan!" by Baan Gaan; 2nd eyecatch: a chorus announcement of "Baan Gaan!" by both Baan Gaan and Shunpei)

Shunpei: What happened? (looks around) Hey! Someone, please answer!! (white orb appears next to him) [?] The VARS...? The VARS is glowing!?

Baan: A boy? Such a young boy has the holy heart...?

Shunpei: [!] Wah! N-Now it talked...!!

Baan: My name is Baan...

Shunpei: ... I-I'm Serizawa Shunpei!

Baan: Listen to me, Shunpei... A fearsome enemy is approaching this world.

Shunpei: A fearsome enemy...?

Baan: Yes. I came here, to Earth, to protect peace in the universe. Shunpei, please fight alongside me!

Shunpei: (shakes his head) M-Me!? I-I can't do that!

Baan: Can't... Is it impossible? How come?

Shunpei: Because... you told me this all of a sudden. Also, I'm a coward and I'm not strong... I can't fight.

Baan: In order to fight on this planet, I need your courage.

Shunpei: I can't. I'm useless!

Baan: I don't have enough time to give you details right now. Please, give me your courage...!

Shunpei: I told you I can't...!

Baan: Come on, repeat after me. Brave Charge!

Shunpei: N-No. I'm afraid...!

Nanako's voice: ...Shunpei? (enters) [!] Shunpei! Are you alright!? (debris is about to fall on her head) Kyaaah!

Shunpei: (moves towards her as the debris comes closer) Nanako! Brave Charge! (Baan appears an blocks the debris) !?

Baan: Go, Shunpei. Save this girl.

Shunpei: U-Uh-huh... (carries her away) ......... (explosions heard in the background)

Baan: It's dangerous right now... You understand, don't you? Shunpei!

Shunpei: (nods) ...... Uh-huh!

Baan: Let's go!!

(Back to map)

Hormor: What's wrong? That's all you two've got!?

Fighbird (Armament Combination form): H-He's strong...

King Exkaiser: ...That's strange. He seems to be much stronger than Hormor used to be...

Hormor: ... Now then, let's finish this!

(four grunts appear, but so does Baan)

Hormor: Who is this!?

Baan: My name is Baan! Holy Brave Baan!!

Hormor: Eey! We'll just finish you as well!!

Victory Condition

Destroy the chief unit!

Unlike Brave Saga 2, you can't choose your weapon when counterattacking. You have to pick between them, defending or dodging on your turn (it's the option under Move and Attack).

King Exkaiser has two weapons: Kaiser Sword and Kaiser Beam.

Fighbird (Armament Combination form) has three weapons: Flame Sword, Sun Slicer and Flame Cannon.

Baan has three weapons: Baan Magnum, Baan Thunder and Dragon Burst.

(Once you defeat Hormor)

Hormor: Damn, that's it for today! Fine, I'll get you next time!! (vanishes)

Baan: W-Wait...!

King Exkaiser: We let him run away...

Fighbird (Armament Combination form): ... He was a strong opponent.

(Stage Clear)

(Back to Shunpei and Nanako, after the fire calmed down)

Shunpei: Nanako! Hey, hold on, Nanako!

Nanako: ... Uhhh......

Shunpei: Nanako!

Nanako: Shunpei...?

Shunpei: Great! You woke up.

Nanako: Did you save me... Shunpei?

Shunpei: Eh? Uhm... I guess that's what it ended up being...

Nanako: ... I also think I saw a big robot...

Shunpei: [!] Eh!? Ah, that's...

Kenta's voice: Ooi, is there anyone here? (enters)

Shunpei: Who are you...?

Kenta: I'm Amano Kenta. I'm a member of the Amano Rescue Team!

Shunpei: [!] Rescue team?

Kenta: It's dangerous here. Let's go to a safe place... [!] Oops, a message from Katori-nii-chan. Seems the battle's over.

Nanako: Battle...?

Shunpei: Now that you mention it, it's gotten quiet...

Kenta: Let's go outside.

(fade to Katori, King Exkaiser and Baan, outside)

Katori: ... I see. So the new enemy's name is Grandark.

Baan: Grandark is controlling minus entities and intends to destroy the universe's balance.

King Exkaiser: So it's Grandark's fault that the Geisters we arrested got away...

Katori: ... Which means, even Drias...!?

Baan: Probably...

Katori: The Earth is going to be in danger again...

King Exkaiser: The Braves in the entire universe have started moving in order to put a stop to Grandark's ambitions. My companions should be here soon. We, the Space Police Kaisers, will lend our strength without hesitation.

Baan: Thank you, that is heartening.

Katori: Me too......

Kenta: (comes out) Katori-nii-chan!

(Shunpei and Nanako come out as well)

Katori: Are you alright, Kenta?

Kenta: Of course I am!

Nanako: Isn't that Shunpei's VARS?

Baan: My name is Baan. Pleased to meet you.

Nanako: P-Pleased to meet you...

King Exkaiser: And you're Shunpei-kun, right?

Shunpei: Yes. Uhm, who are you...?

King Exkaiser: I am Exkaiser, the leader of the Space Police Kaisers.

Shunpei: Space Police...?

Baan: He's our reliable ally, Shunpei.

Katori: I think my partners, the Space Security Force, will be here soon as well. Let us fight together for world peace!

Kenta: Don't forget about the Amano Rescue Team!

Shunpei: (nods) ...I-I'm Serizawa Shunpei. Pleased to meet you!
