Relation to Fiona Gureden
In the Reversal storyline, Raul Gureden and Fiona Gureden are gendered, alternate existances of one another, thus they could not co-exist together. While Raul's love interest is Mizuho Saiki, Fiona's is Raji Montoya. Regardless of this difference, Raul and Fiona possessed many traits similar to each other and experienced the same set of events ordained in Reversal. In Reversal, there is only one Excellence unit.
In the Original Generation storyline, Raul and Fiona become siblings, with Fiona becoming Raul's slightly, younger twin sister, and pilots a second Excellence unit. At the age of 18, Raul is an optimistic young man who believes in his ideals, especially on the purpose of the Excellence unit. However, he's still rather inexperienced, in terms with expressing his feelings with Mizuho, which sometimes leads to embarrassing moments when they are alone together. Likewise, 18 year-old Fiona shares her brother's optimism, but expresses great concern for his well-being, due to his recklessness and knack for getting into trouble, usually by himself. Fiona often feels that her position as the Excellence pilot is what hinders Raji's continuing research on the Time Flow Engine.
History
Reversal Timeline
In Super Robot Wars Reversal, Raul/Fiona is a member of the Excellence Team, a group that develops a machine intended for rescue operations, while running on the experimental Time Flow Engine, in which Raul/Fiona is the pilot for the unit. In the Reversal storyline, the future has been already bleak, as the events of Nadesico: The Prince Of Darkness and Mobile Suit Gundam: Char's Counterattack are at its dawn, which would further plunge the world into more chaos. During a test run on the Excellence unit, Raul's/Fiona's team, consisting of Raji Montoya, the engine's operator, Mizuho Saiki, the machine's mechanic, and himself/herself, was attacked by a mysterious being, controlling several robots that was used for test targets. They were saved by both Bright Noa and Ruri Hoshino and followed them, in hopes to promote the Excellence and its use.
Eventually, Raul/Fiona would re-encounter the mysterious attacker back from the test site, the enigmatic Duminuss. Raul/Fiona attacked Duminuss, only to be defeated and in the process, the Excellence's Time Flow Engine ran amok and created a time portal, sending him/her 5 years into the past, where he/she would encounter the younger versions of the Nadesico and Gundam cast. Raul/Fiona and the Excellence team helped the people there to suppress the brewing wars, joining under the Round Knights, a group similar to the Londo Bell faction in various Super Robot Wars titles or the Alpha Numbers from the Super Robot Wars Alpha series, and secretly used technologies that was suppose to be discovered in the future, allowing the Excellence to obtain a variety of frames for combat.
During the events based on the ending of Zambot 3, where Uchuta Kamie and Keiko Kamikita were suppose to sacrifice themselves to ensure the victory of the team, Raul/Fiona decided to alter history by saving them, as he/she formed a strong friendship with the Round Knights. Raul/Fiona would make more history-altering actions, such as convincing Char Aznable, during his guise as Quattro Bajina, to the point that he'd no longer wish to execute the Axis asteroid drop. However, during all this, Duminass would continue to watch over Raul/Fiona, waiting for a chance to take away and use the Excellence's Time Flow Engine for itself.
Raul/Fiona would eventually face off against Duminuss and its three creations, but upon Duminuss' defeat, he/she found out that Duminuss' purpose was not to destroy, as Raul/Fiona originally believed. Created by a human, all Duminuss wished was to find out its purpose in life, by its creator. With Duminuss destroyed, Raul/Fiona and the Excellence Team returned back to their original timeline, now changed due to his deeds in the past. Eventually, they received a call from a sponsor, who would like to utilize the Excellence as it was originally intended: as a rescue operations machine.
Original Generation Timeline
In Super Robot Wars Original Generations, Raul, Fiona, Raji and Mizuho do not originate from the future, but from the Shadow-Mirror universe. Lemon Browning took an interest in the Time Flow Engine and was pursuing the Excellence Team for it. Eventually, the team was ambushed by Axel Almer, who quickly gained the upper hand by disabling Fiona's Excellence unit, putting it in critical condition and demanded Raul to surrender his Excellence machine. Suddenly, Duminuss appeared and further damaged Fiona's Excellence, causing its Time Flow Engine to malfunction. Desperate to save his sister, Raul tried to reach her, but he was sucked into a newly-created portal, caused by the Time Flow Engine, along with Fiona, Raji and Mizuho.
Raul, Raji and Mizuho would appear in the Original Generation universe, being thrown right before the Earth Federation Army's assault on the Moon Cradle, which was under occupation by the Inspectors. Raul and his teammates joined up with the crew of the Hiryu Custom, who were en route to attack the facility, in hopes of finding Fiona, and was eventually involved in the defeat of Shadow-Mirror, Inspectors and Einst. He would later stay on the Kurogane, alongside Sanger Zonvolt, Ratsel Feinschmecker, Yuuki Jaggar and Ricarla Borgnine. During his time in the Original Generation universe, Raul has yet to re-encounter Duminuss; even though it made an appearance inside the Hellgate facility, Raul was busy repelling the Bartolls on the outside. However, he did encounter Duminuss' three creations, before the assault on the facility.
Raul later lost Raji and Mizuho, after they were captured by Duminuss, but was reunited with Fiona, when Fighter Roar clashed with his brainwashed sister, Emi. The Over Gate Engine inside the Compatible Kaiser caused a dimensional gate to open and brought forth his sister. Fiona would be tended aboard the Hiryu Custom and was ready to join her brother in the upcoming battle, using the new Excellence Lightning and Eternal frames that Raji and Mizuho left behind. They rescued both of them in the Swordian Fortress, and Raji, along with Mizuho, rode together with Raul in his Excellence Lightning to battle the Dark Brain and later, Shu Shirakawa.
With the war over, Raul and Fiona agreed to dismantle their Excellence units, as Raji and Mizuho prepared a new machine for rescue operations. The siblings also opened a new repair shop, named L&E Corporation, in reference to their final frames. Additionally, they also adopted the only surviving homunculi of Duminuss, Despoiniz.
